A-State’s Davis Earns Weekly CFPA Honor Arkansas State senior Brian Davis was named one of eight FBS players to earn national Honorable Mention Placekicker of the Week accolades from the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) on Monday after connecting on 3-of-3 field goal attempts against Auburn last Saturday. Davis, listed on the 2013 Lou Groza Award Watch List and a candidate for the CFPA’s national Placekicker Trophy Award, connected on multiple field goals for the 12th time of his career with his season-high three field goals. He now has 44 for his career, which leaves him only one shy of tying the fifth most in Sun Belt Conference history. The Brentwood, Tenn. native’s three field goals covered 34, 21 and 42 yards, with his final one pulling the Red Wolves within 21-9 of the Tigers with 7:53 left in the third quarter. Dating back to last season, Davis has now made his last six consecutive field goals and can tie the sixth longest streak in school history if he makes his next attempt. Davis is currently ranked second in A-State history for most points by kicking (252), most extra points made (120) and most field goals made. He also holds an .815 field goal percentage (44-of-54), which is the second best ever in the Sun Belt Conference. He was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist last year as a junior when he broke the school record for most points by kicking in a season with 104. A-State opens Sun Belt Conference play with a 6:30 p.m. home game against Troy on Thursday. Season tickets for A-State’s five remaining home games are still available through the Arkansas State University Ticket Office.
