Malzahn expected to take Auburn position Multiple sources are reporting that Arkansas State University Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn is headed back to Auburn. Alabama news website al.com is reporting that Auburn is expected to name Malzahn as its new head football coach today. Astate Nation, a Jonesboro-based website that covers ASU sports, is also reporting that Malzahn will be named as Auburn's next coach. Malzahn was named Arkansas State head coach a year ago. The Red Wolves just completed their regular season under Malzahn Saturday, finishing with a 9-3 record and a Sun Belt Conference title. Malzahn replaces former Auburn Head Coach Gene Chizik, who was fired last Sunday after a 3-9 record that included an 0-8 SEC record. According to Al.com, Malzahn left Auburn as the highest-paid assistant coach in the nation with a $1.3 million annual salary. Malzahn was Auburn's offensive coordinator from 2009-11.
