Jonesboro High School senior kicker/punter Luke Ferguson has decided to walk on at Arkansas State University.

Ranked as one of the top prep kicking specialists in the nation, Ferguson was rated as a 5.0 kicker and punter college prospect by Kohl's Kicking Camps following the Texas Showcase national competition in Dallas in December.

Ferguson, who had verbally committed to the University of Central Arkansas for a full-ride scholarship, decided to walk on at ASU this morning, ASU Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn announced during a press conference today.

Ferguson tied for second in field goal charting and finished third overall in kickoffs and third overall in punting out of approximately 100 elite kickers from Texas and 13 other states in the Texas Showcase. He is ranked as the 19th punter, and the 29th kicker nationally, by the Kohl's organization for the class of 2012.

Ferguson is also a VYPE All-Arkansas Team punter, 6A All-State selection, as well as an Arkansas High School Coaches All-Star game honoree.

He is the son of Dave and Belinda Ferguson of Jonesboro.
