Players All-Star Classic to Feature Five Red Wolves Five seniors who helped lead the Arkansas State football team to the 2011 Sun Belt Conference title and the GoDaddy.com Bowl will participate in the Players All-Star Classic, set for a 3 p.m. (CT) kickoff on Feb. 4 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Running back Jermaine Robertson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), linebacker Demario Davis (Brandon, Miss.), defensive end Brandon Joiner (Killeen, Texas), safety Kelcie McCray (Columbus, Ga.) and defensive lineman Dorvus Woods (St. Louis, Mo.) will all represent the Red Wolves at the college football all-star game, which will be televised live on both Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and Cox Sports Television (CST). The roster will spilt in a North-South format and be made up of a collection of talented players from all levels of college football who are rated as prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft. All five ASU players will compete on the South squad, which will be coached by Kurt Schottenheimer. The North team will be coached by Martin Bayless. Robertson rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns on 53 attempts this season, including a season-best 85-yard performance in a 45-19 victory at Middle Tennessee. Robertson finished his four-year career with 657 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He rushed for a career-high 92 yards against Navy in the Red Wolves’ final game of the 2010 season. Davis, a First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection as both a junior and senior, was on the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List in 2011. Along with McCray, he was the leading tackler on ASU’s defense this past season with 70 stops to his credit. He completed his career with an impressive 230 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks and 4 interceptions from his linebacker position. Joiner was named the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year with 48 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, 2 pass break-ups and one forced fumble and fumble recovery on the season. His 19 tackles for loss tied him for the 10th most in the nation and his 13 sacks tied the Sun Belt Conference record for a single season. Joiner finished his two-year career at ASU with 82 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss and 17 sacks. McCray was a 2011 First Team All-Sun Belt selection after recording 70 tackles, 4 interceptions and 4 pass break-ups. While he tied Davis as the team leader in tackles, he was also ranked No. 5 in the conference in interceptions and No. 14 in passes defended. His four interceptions in 2011 tied his total for his sophomore campaign and gave him 10 for his career. A Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week this year, McCray finished with 220 tackles and 12 pass break-ups in four seasons at ASU. Woods earned Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as both a junior and senior. His senior campaign saw him record 21 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, a career-best 3.5 sacks, 2 pass break-ups, 2 forced fumbles and 8 quarterback hurries. Woods put up career-high numbers of 45 tackles and 9.0 tackles for loss as a junior. He ended his four-year ASU career with 103 tackles, 24.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. [+] add comment |
