The Cardiologist's Wife Loves One Love People If you’ve got a coffee or tea addiction and long for something different than the usual chain offerings, you must head into One Love People today for your fix. One Love People is the brainchild of owners Lauren and Thurel George and opened just six weeks ago. Currently the hipster influenced eatery offers a wide selection of teas and coffees - cold pressed, cold brew, aero press and pour over - plus a limited breakfast menu. It was the breakfast menu that grabbed my attention after my daughter and a friend ate there and pronounced it very good. My husband and I stopped by for breakfast this past Saturday after our farmer’s market run and I ate there again today. I immediately fell in love with the funky, eclectic decor with its odd mix of chairs, sofas, artwork and patchwork tablecloths. Jonesboro seriously lacks independently owned restaurants that offer more than mass produced foods but One Love delivers. Lauren and Thurel seek to buy local produce and foods whenever possible. Lauren became more concerned about what she was eating after having children. She firmly believes in buying local, knowing what you are eating and where it comes from. Their food comes from the farmer’s market, her own garden and even her Grandpa’s garden. All the eggs are farm fresh. The waffles are probably the best I’ve eaten; they are light and crispy and can be served with a topping of seasonal fruit like peaches or blackberries. My favorite is the veggie pile - a fried egg topped with sautéed vegetables and cheese. You can also have the same thing in a sandwich. Mine was topped with mushrooms, peppers, onions and zucchini, while the sandwich added spinach. Ask for bacon with either order if you want meat. Their oatmeal is a bit different than the usual bowl of mush and some of my daughter’s friends liked it. I don’t like banana bread but I had to try One Love’s version because they used coconut flour instead of wheat. It was very moist and we all thought it was pretty good. The servings are small by American glutton standards but are filling and much more in line with the amount we should eat and the prices are very reasonable. Friday and Saturday they had live music from Dennis Reed and Callie MaRae which was actually very pleasant. I believe they even have some afternoon tea and yoga classes but you can check with Lauren to confirm. This place is perfect for a leisurely Saturday breakfast or to catch up with friends over a muffin and a cup of coffee. Don’t expect to rush in a grab your breakfast a la McDonald’s drive thru; your food is cooked after your order it, not grabbed and bagged. They are located on Main Street across from Gearhead’s and just down from Gearhead’s bike shop. Their hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday but they are considering additional hours on Sunday or Friday evenings. Get out and support local business owners and Downtown Jonesboro!
