Little Hands Love Valentine's Day Valentine's Week! Over here, we LOVE Valentine's Day. Before I was married, I actually disliked the holiday, probably because it was awkward when dating and I worked in a restaurant and Valentine's is crazy when you're a server. However, now that I am a mother in a house full of girls, it's one of our favorite days of the year! Not only does it signal that spring is just around the corner, but it's a time we get to make cute things and eat chocolate. For Valentine's this year, we decided to make my husband's gifts. I wanted to try making one of those drawn on coffee mugs first. I went to the Dollar Tree to get a plain mug and, though I've heard Sharpie markers work, I used a glass marker anyway. I practiced with a dry erase marker first, and then text pictures to lots of people asking opinions because I am truly terrible at drawing. Once I thought it worked, I used the glass markers to draw a tree with initials carved on it, put our wedding date on the handle, and on the back simply wrote, Love. You. Put it on a cookie sheet and baked at 350. I first baked it for 10 minutes, but I think to give a longer life span, you really need to bake 15-20 minutes like I did the second time. Then, you can accidentally leave it out on the table in plain sight for your husband to come home and ruin the surprise, or you could hide your's to actually give on Valentine's Day, whichever you want. Luckily he loved it! It also helps if your spouse loves coffee, since it's a coffee mug. The girls painted some heart frames and then we punched snowflakes and butterflies out to glue on it. Then we added London's picture she drew into her's, while Story is still working on her idea. What about you? Still working on your idea? Making any crafts for Valentine's this year? Until next time, Heather [+] add comment |
