Little Hands' Spiced Applesauce I've made known my delight in obscure holidays, you'll be happy to know another is coming up soon! This Thursday the 26th is National Johnny Appleseed Day! Aren't you excited? I plan on making an apple pie among other things, so my husband is looking forward to it for the first time. If you'd like to celebrate the day, the girls and I made some spiced applesauce today that would be a great recipe to try Thursday! Spiced Applesauce INGREDIENTS: *8-10 tart apples (Granny smith or Macintosh do well) *1/2-1 cup water or juice *1/4 cup brown sugar *1 1/2 tsp cinnamon *1/4 tsp ginger *1/4 tsp cloves DIRECTIONS: Cube apples and mix with other ingredients. Pour into baking dish and roast at 400 degrees for an hour, stirring every 20 minutes. When soft, puree if you'd prefer it less chunky and cool. Until next time, Heather [+] add comment |
