Little Hands Celebrate National Play-Doh Day with Spiced Playdoh Did you know that Monday, the 16th, is National Play-Doh Day? Oh yes. It's marked on our kitchen calendar. We love playdoh for it's variety. As a lover of autumn, my favorite playdoh is the fall spice. It's a homemade quick recipe for a soft batch that is scented with spices. Because autumn is growing closer each day, we thought we'd share the recipe with you so you can celebrate national Play-Doh Day too! It starts with the normal play-doh recipe, which is 2:1 flour and salt. I find that one cup of flour per child makes a good amount for each of them. So if you have two children, 2 cups of flour, 1 cup salt. For three children, 3 cups flour, 1.5 cups salt, and so on. Spiced Play-Doh INGREDIENTS: *2 cups of flour *1 cup salt *4 tsp. Cream of tarter *5 tsp. cinnamon *1 tsp. nutmeg *1 tsp. cloves *1 tsp. ginger *2 cups water *2 Tbsp. oil DIRECTIONS: Mix the first seven dry ingredients in a medium sauce pan then add the wet. Cook on medium heat stirring constantly. In a few minutes, it will start to form a ball. Once the dough becomes a soft dough-like ball, remove from heat and allow to cool. Knead the ball once it's cooled. Keep in an airtight container. My girls loved this because it smells like their beloved applesauce cookies we make a lot. Plus, it's appearance looks like a wheat bread dough, which they felt looked perfect for mud for their plastic animals to make footprints through, and it's a soft enough dough that they can really work it without help. Tip: when cooking, it will start getting clumpy and begin to look like a hot mess (literally) that you didn't mix well enough. Perfectly normal, just keep moving in around with a wooden spoon until it all comes together. Happy National Play-Doh Day! Enjoy the fall playdoh! Don't you love obscure random holidays? They're so fun. Until next time, Heather [+] add comment |
