So I've developed a new love for clothespins. That sounds really odd, but it's crazy the different crafts these little things can be used in! The newest use has been a matching game using clothespins, cardboard, and paint (washable, of course). In all honesty, I needed the box to make a mail holder for my fridge, and I needed London to let me work on it and avoid my hot glue gun. So she got a flat square of cardboard and some washable paint on a sheet in the living room floor. That still sounds brave for me, but crayola washable paint comes off carpet with a baby wipe, even when dried on. I first made lines with the paint for her to fill in, but she went with a more creative, liberal style, which was fine too. We made sure to use all of our colors and while that was drying, we painted matching clothespins and used the rest of the cereal box to attach them to so that she could paint both sides without holding them.

Once it was all dry, she started putting all of the coordinating colored clothespins onto their color, pulling them off, and starting over while singing their color aloud. I'm not kidding, that little girl sat there playing with that toy for THIRTY minutes. Free, educational, fun toy. You couldn't get any better than that if you tried! It now has to stay in the living room on the shelf with books and puzzles so that it's easily accessible. We have big plans on doing letters, numbers, and maybe a few more difficult things. Story, at one is really into them as well, though has some issues with the motor skill part of the clothespins which causes serious rage, but she's learning. This would be a great idea for something for the kids to do at a family get together or holiday gathering!
