Little Hands: Oven-Free Cake Waffles This heat has gotten crazy! If your house is anything like mine has been, you've opened the door as little as possible and used heat producing appliances even less. Other than cookies and other baked goods, I haven't used my oven in weeks thanks to my crock pot. Other people all over the Internet have also been looking for creative ways to get around using their ovens, and one of the best things that have come from this is cake waffles! I saw the idea last week and knew we'd be having cake that night. You just make up your cake mix as the recipe calls, and then pour it into your waffle maker. THREE minutes. That's all! I had to make my cake mix from scratch because we didn't have any. You pour 1/4 to 1/2 a cup in, depending on the size of your maker. I would have taken a picture of the before product, but my husband had waffle iron duty and let's just say it wasn't the cleanest area. I didn't want it to look like it was a difficult or messy treat. I've seen them eaten with ice cream between two like an ice cream sandwich, with icing, and anything else. We smoothed cool whip over ours, added chocolate fudge, chopped nuts, and a cherry on top. Oh. my. word. So, if you're looking for ways to have fun treats with your kids without giving up 10 degrees in your home, try it out! I was thinking yesterday that if I couldn't beat the heat, I'd have to join it and had a fun science project I wanted to share including crayons, cardboard, and ridiculous temperatures, but yesterday was our first partly cloudy day in weeks (of course). I'll have to share it next week.
Until then,
