Little Hands: Make a Castle for the Kiddos Remember the playhouse made from the curtain? Well, after many requests for a castle (from the princess living in my home), I came across an old tablecloth in my linen closet that I knew would be perfect! I cut it down to fit and cut the castle stones on the top. The material frayed horribly, so I had to hem it around the edges, windows, and door. I sewed everything because London's new favorite hobby is to "help" sew by holding my hands, but all the hemming and everything could have been done with a hot glue gun. On the top area, I made folded it over to make pockets for the shower rod to go through, then added castle blocks with some paint. (Castles are surprisingly easy to paint and you can google tons of videos and tutorials.) We made a banner for the top, water on the bottom for the moat, then added flowers and ivy growing up the sides out of old clothes and things we had around the house. For the final touch, I made a felt coat of arms. I copied the real Patterson coat of arms, but attached it with velcro so the girls can make their own fun ones later. This is such a fun and easy idea. I'd love to make a store front and/or school later so they can have several options to choose from. So far, the castle has stayed in the doorway to the hallway from the living room this week, but as long as she's entertained and not telling her baby sister no for chewing on all her toys. Hope everyone had a great Father's Day! We celebrated by making cupcakes and attempting to ice them to look like a grill, but failed. Luckily, they were chocolate with chocolate icing, so, no fail after all :) Today's the first official day of Summer, by the way! We're eating fruit, playing in the pool, and catching lightening bugs! Are you celebrating it?
Until next time,
