Jonesboro Occasions - June 2011 This June, we are proud to present the second annual Downtown Issue of Occasions. Downtown Jonesboro is growing, and we’re excited to bring you an issue that focuses on this thriving area. We also have a special section that focuses on many of Jonesboro’s finest family- and locally-owned businesses.
The issue starts off with a cover story on Ted and Amanda Herget’s Gearhead Outfitters. The store is expanding by adding a specialty bike store called Gearhead Cycle House right across the street from their current Main Street location. Their story also features something that is new to Occasions this month – Quick Response (QR) codes. Once you download a free app with your smart phone and scan the QR codes throughout the issue, you’ll be able to view additional information such as videos and photos. Let us know what you think of them! Our June issue also features: a rundown of all of the awesome businesses and restaurants that are coming soon to Downtown Jonesboro; a look at how the revamped Downtown Jonesboro Association hopes to make Downtown Jonesboro one of Arkansas’ official Main Street Communities; J. Christopher Toys and Gifts and how owner Mary Horne’s desire for Jonesboro to “Think Local” is taking off; recent Jonesboro High School graduate Carter Kidd’s first fashionable collection and how you can check out his designs at the Carter Kidd Fashion Show later this month; how James Bests’ had work and flair for food led him to the success of Skinny J’s, an overview of the area’s summer concerts, the downtown murals of Vince Pearcy; and Fab Finds that are sure to get you ready for summer. And you know you can always count on Occasions for our Datebook and our Dining Guide. May was a busy month, so our June issue has event photos from Run for the Roses, the HMG Doc Rock, the Red Cross Murder Mystery Dinner, the Sara Howell Spring Fashion Show, United Way’s Pillars Party, the Pregnancy Resource Center’s Banquet, Artist Unknown’s Wine and Cheese Reception, the MOPS St. Jude Trike-a-Thon, the Thunder and Chrome Bike Show, the Art Frames Etc. Show, The Little Mermaid, Celebration in May, the JA Provisional Tea, the Altrusa Luncheon, the JHS Graduation Party, the Wells’ Wedding Reception, the Truly Asian Kung Food Challenge, the DDS 4 NEA Summer Games, Lifeline to Art and the NEA Baptist Art Slam. For even more photos, click on “Event Galleries” on Jonesboro.com or scan the QR code in your copy of the magazine. Click HERE to read our June issue online, and as always, you'll be able to find the magazine all around town at all of your favorite local businesses. [+] add comment |
