One new application for president of Arkansas State University was received today.

The latest applicant is:

-- Dr. Charles L. Welch of Arkadelphia, president of Henderson State University.

A previously announced candidate, Dr. Mark Drummond of Twentynine Palms, Calif., has withdrawn from the process, so the pool of candidates for president of Arkansas State University stands at 20 people.

The Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet today at 12:30 p.m. at the ASU System Office.  The agenda calls for the Board to go into executive session, during which time the trustees are expected to review all applications received to date.

Mrs. Florine Tousant Milligan, Board chair and Presidential Search Advisory Committee chair, has said she expects that during today’s meeting the Board will select candidates to invite for interviews on Monday and/or Tuesday, Nov. 8 and 9.  Each candidate will first publicly address the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, then the Board of Trustees will interview each candidate in executive session.

The ASU Presidential Search website, http://presidentialsearch.asusystem.edu, includes the application and nomination procedures, a description of the ASU System, the position announcement, and a list of qualifications and characteristics desired in the new president.
