Small Business Disaster Preparedness Month If your business was physically or economically impacted by a declared disaster, could it recover? Do know where recovery help would come from? Would you have the finances to continue operations? Would you be eligible for a low interest disaster loan? Do you know how the disaster would impact your taxes?
September is disaster preparedness month. And while large scale disasters are most commonly thought of, smaller events such as the interruption of a power source or a utility service can also cripple business operations. What is considered a nuisance for one business could be a disaster for another. The Red Cross estimates that 40% of small businesses don’t reopen after a major disaster with the most common reasons being failure to plan and lack of operating capital. Would your business survive?
