LOCAL YOUNG SCIENTISTS TO COMPETE FOR AWARDS AND PRIZES AT THENORTHEAST ARKANSAS REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR ON MARCH 11, 2011 AT ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY

The Northeast Arkansas Regional Science Fair (NEARSF) will be held on March 11, 2011at the Student Union (projects will be displayed in Centennial Hall) located on thecampus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Individual students and teams(Grades 6-12) will receive recognition for outstanding science fair projects invarious categories of science, math, and engineering.

The three top winners of theentire science fair and their sponsoring teachers will be eligible to compete at theIntel International Science and Engineering Fair 2011, Los Angeles, California, May8-13. Travel, housing, and registration expenses for the top three project, can bethree individual student projects or two individual projects and one team consistingof two students and their sponsoring teachers attending the Intel ISEF will be paidfor by the NEARSF which is supported by Arkansas State University (College ofSciences and Mathematics), and private monetary donations provided by businesses,charitable organizations, and members of the northeast Arkansas community.

Students will set up their science fair projects on Friday, March 11th, during themorning (Exhibit Setup - 8:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday). The check-in table forstudent projects will be outside Centennial Hall.

Exhibiting information regardingvarious academic programs at Arkansas State will be available in Centennial Hall.ASU representatives from various departments and programs will be available Fridaymorning and/or afternoon for students, parents, and others to gather informationabout the university.

Tables will be available Friday morning in exhibiting area for the various academicprograms at Arkansas State University to share information with the students. Representatives from various departments and programs will be available in themorning and/or in the evening for students, parents, and others to gatherinformation.

Science fair exhibits will be closed to the public Friday afternoon from 12:00 pm to5:30 pm while judging takes place. Fair exhibits will be open to the public and thestudents from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday.

An awards ceremony will take place onFriday, March 11th at 7:00 pm with Dr. John Pratte, officiating in the presentationof awards, as well, as other presenters. The award's ceremony will take place inthe auditorium of the Student Union.
