Radiology Services: Advanced Diagnostic Technology

  • Radiology. Diagnostic radiology is used for imagery of the skeleton (bones), the digestive and urinary tracts, and even the chest to diagnose illnesses such as pneumonia.
  • Digital Fluoroscopy. This is a type of imaging used for examining internal structures in motion. It is used primarily for imaging the esophagus, stomach, and small and large intestines—capturing high–speed sequences that previously were impossible to image.
  • Computed Tomography (CT). Our facility houses highly advanced CT scanners which have the ability to scan the entire body in under 10 seconds! These machines offer a reduction in procedure time while providing your physician with greater information and the highest image quality.
  • We also provide many advanced procedures such as 3D Reconstruction, MDCTUs for kidney stones, and Cardiac Scoring.
  • A CT scanner is a large, donut-shaped machine which uses X-rays that pass through the body to create computerized images of bones, blood vessels and internal organs. CT provides much more detail than standard X-ray.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). We offer the latest in MRI technology with high-field scanners that provide short study times and excellent image quality. Our bi-lateral breast MRI reduces study time from two-day to one-day procedures.

Women Services

A dedicated Women’s Services wing provides more privacy during testing and examinations. This specialty area of St. Bernards Imaging Center, accredited by the American College of Radiology, provides the very best healthcare for area women.

Women’s Imaging Area

  • Full-Field Digital Mammography System. Utilizing one-pass, accurate and precise exposure, this system’s sophisticated detector accommodates almost all breast sizes and allows accurate, easy positioning for image sharpness and improved patient care. A seven-position virtual sensor allows the greatest tissue sampling and quickly determines the densest area of breast tissue, assuring the utmost precision. All St. Bernards Imaging Center technologists are registered in the field of mammography.
  • Magnetic Resonance Breast Imaging. St. Bernards is the first to offer bilateral enhanced breast MRI—a supplemental tool to mammography because it is an excellent problem-solving technology. Breast MRI is a useful tool to investigate breast concerns detected with mammography or other imaging exams and is also useful for staging breast cancer, determining appropriate treatment and follow-up after treatment.
  • Stereotactic Biopsy System. This new technology shortens procedure time and, in appropriate cases, a preliminary diagnosis can be given the same day of service. The redesigned table allows needle biopsies of lesions that previously could be biopsied only in surgery. * Bone Densitometry System. As the most rapid means of acquiring bone mineral density (BMD) measurements in a single sweep, lateral imaging is the newest generation of bone densitometry.
  • Ultrasound Units. Ultrasound images can visualize movement and live function in the body’s organs and blood vessels as well as determine a baby’s size, weight, position and physical condition. Ultrasound also is used to examine the breast, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, thyroid, kidneys, uterus, and ovaries. All ultrasounds are conducted by registered St. Bernards sonographers.

Women’s Education Resources

  • Women’s Education Conference Center. With seating for 40, the conference center hosts a number of educational classes, including prenatal and breastfeeding, breast cancer, breast health, Women’s HeartAdvantage™ and “Look Good, Feel Better” in conjunction with the American Cancer Society. Advanced media equipment and a teaching kitchen in the conference center will enhance the learning experiences for today’s women.
  • Women’s Health Resource Library. Containing a wide variety of journals, brochures, pamphlets, interactive media programs on women’s health, Internet access for research, video/DVD library with viewing area, hands-on models and learning tools, and a lending library, the resource library brings together the latest healthcare information. Trained staff is always available to assist in the library area.
  • One-on-One Breast Care Specialists. Registered nurses with breast health specialist certification provide one-on-one care to assist patients from screening to diagnosis, treatment and recovery. These specialized RNs teach breast health education classes, deliver patient support and offer community health screenings.
